God taunts and lies to his enemies: Jeremiah 13:23

Joel 3

10 Beat your plowshares into swords
And your pruning hooks into spears;
Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’”

12 “Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat;
For there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations.
13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe.

14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!
For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.

A taunt is a reproach said in a mocking, or insulting manner to incite a person into some action.  Usually the person being insulted does not respond to reason or mild reprimands and this is the last resort to change their behavior.

Despite the popular songs that reference Joel 3:10 “Let the Weak say I am Strong”  (such as “What the Lord has done in me” by Hillsong), this is not a call for the Christian to be strong. On the contrary, this is a taunt for the enemies of God to be gathered together at the Valley of Jehoshaphat for slaughter.

This is a delusion of the end times, the great apostasy. It is at this time God will send a great delusion upon people to believe lies. God does deceive his enemies and at times lies to them.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-12

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin[b] is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God[c] in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God… 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

This is another taunt from God.

Jeremiah 13:23

Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Then may you also do good who are accustomed to do evil.

The whole purpose of Jeremiah 13 is to provoke the people of Judah into repentance. If they did not have the free will to repent then the chapter is wasted. In fact, if they did not have the ability to repent and change their behavior God would be a liar.

It is not God who makes people do their evil deeds. The Scripture says the people are evil, they follow their own hearts. They are responsible for their own deeds.

10 This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them,

God intended the people of Israel to follow him and leave their folly.  What is apparent in the chapter is a love offered by God but refused by his chosen nation.  It is possible to hear and feel the anguish of a scorned lover in the Words of God.

11 For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,’ says the Lord, ‘that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’

The offense of the people is their pride and not their inability to respond to God’s outreach.

15 Hear and give ear: Do not be proud, For the Lord has spoken.

There is still an opportunity, a lost chance to reach out to God before the punishment arrives.

16 Give glory to the Lord your God Before He causes darkness,

The problem is known.  The Lord explains the cause of their punishment.  They will not listen, it is possible for them to listen but they will not.  Their refusal brings an emotional response from God.  If God determined everything, he would not weep for a lost love.  He would make them love him.

17 But if you will not hear it, My soul will weep in secret for your pride; My eyes will weep bitterly And run down with tears,

God is taunting his enemies.  You will not listen, you can never be good.  You are like the Ethiopian who cannot change the color of his skin and the leopard who cannot change its spots.  This is an insult by the way in case no one has noticed.  It is the Calvinist who opposes God’s will.  He claims verse 23 portrays the inability of man to reach out to God.  God preaches the ability of man to reach out to God, desires reconciliation, weeps bitter tears for lost love and the Calvinist offers nothing just inability.

Jeremiah 13:23

Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Then may you also do good who are accustomed to do evil.

This is a part of the great delusion, a prophecy from Islam.  In the end times a true devotee of Allah will restore true Islam.  His title will be Mahdi meaning guided one.  His proper name is Muhammad and hence the reason so many Muslims take that name. He will lead all Muslims to a great and final battle over the Christians. This great war is called al-Malhamah or al-Kubrah by the Muslims and Armageddon by the Christians.

According to Islamic prophecy,  the Jews and the Christians will lose this war.  The weak and the strong are encouraged to participate in the battle even if the weak have to crawl on their knees in the snow. This is the opposite side of the Biblical battle of Armageddon.  This is the lie sent to delude the world into a global battle against God.

God sends a delusion to deceive the ungodly at the end of the world.
